ITDS Student Workers

Instructional Technology & Desktop Services (ITDS) is just one of the many departments within the Division of Information Technology. ITDS currently employs a large number of students to provide technology support for WCU faculty, staff, and students. Students hired to work on the ITDS Team have the opportunity to develop skills in the following areas: hardware troubleshooting, software troubleshooting, customer service, classroom technology, software training, marketing/social media, and networking. Regardless of your technology knowledge base or your major, we seek students that are enthusiastic about learning new technology skills.

The ITDS teams that currently employ student workers are:

Technology Commons

This team employs them most student workers. The Technology Commons team provides technology support, equipment for checkout, software/technology training, and Apple/Dell purchasing assistance. Student workers on this team offer direct client support at the service desk, while also completing major repairs in the repair center.

Instructional Computing

Students in this area work closely with the Instructional Computing full-time staff on classroom technology support. They will assist with keeping classroom technology working properly as well as assist with calls for technology problems within a classroom. Beyond supporting the classrooms, students will assist with installation of equipment in the carts and ceilings.

Client Technology

This team has two separate sub-teams. The Desktop Services sub-team has student workers that assist with repair, delivery, and surplus of WCU owned devices and also student hardware repair. The Desktop Management team has student workers that assist with the management of university owned devices and with the respective software tools (for example: SCCM, Casper). Students on both teams learn to use these tools in different capacities in order to maintain, image and deploy software to WCU owned computers.

Specialty Teams

Marketing - works closely with the manager of the Technology Commons to create marketing plans and graphic design projects for the Division of IT. Projects include flyers, digital signage, social media, animated videos, etc.

ITVS - works with the Embedded College Support and Video Services team handling distance learning classes, event production, content editing for clients, and other production related projects for the campus.
